JULY 2008
July 4, 2008: Independence Day Event
Time: 10:00am-2:00pm
Do your children know what it means to be an American? If you're home for the 4th of July, celebrate at the Charlotte Museum of History. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the grounds, homesite to one of our region's original patriots, Hezekiah Alexander. Children's activities will include various colonial games, a puppet show, and a Ben Franklin kite demonstration.

July 6, 2008: Saving Your Treasures Workshop Series
Time: 2:00-4:00pm
Spit and Polish: Care and Preservation of Wood and Metal

July 9, 2008: A Close Encounter with Winston Churchill:
Lecture featuring Celia Sandys
Time: 7:30pm-9:00pm
The museum, in cooperation with the Churchill Society of North Carolina will host this lecture featuring Celia Sandys, granddaughter of Sir Winston Churchill. Celia’s experience at her grandfather’s side, as well as the extensive research and writing of his life and leadership, has established her as one of the most sought-after speakers in the world.
Admission is free for all attendees!

July 13, 2008: Charlotte Folk Society Ice Cream Social
Time: 1:00pm – 5:00pm
A collaboration with the Charlotte Folk Society brings an afternoon of folk music, historic games, tours of the Homesite, and free ice cream. The event will also include a demonstration in making a delicious colonial dessert.
The event is proudly sponsored by Foskoskies, located on Shamrock Drive.
Free admission. No reservations are required.

AUGUST 2008
August 21, 2008: Family Fun Night: Treasures
Time: 5:00-9:30pm
This year's family fun night will be themed around the museum's newest exhibit, Charlotte Stories: Our Collections, Your Treasures.
Come to the Charlotte Museum of History for a pizza dinner and meet Princess Simone Simplicita of Musea and renowned museologist professor Dr. Carolina Jones. They will be here to discuss a stunning gift donated to the Museum of Musea History by the Princess. Families will assist with the process of research and documentation of a new gift. Children will also help celebrate the Princess’s childhood companion, the donkey Simple Simon.
Next on the evening adventures is the Priceless Treasures Tour. Children will join the White Glove Brigade in investigating artifacts from the museum’s collection, learning how to preserve them so that future generations can enjoy them.
The evening of fun will conclude with popcorn and a showing of the movie National Treasure.
$5 for children ages 6-12; $7 for Adult members; $10 for Adult non-members.

SEPTEMBER 2008
September 11, 2008: Distinguished Speaker Series featuring John Burns
Time: 8:00pm – 10:00pm
Lecture to be given by Mr. Burns, followed by a wine and hor d'oeuvres reception.
This event is free to members and their guests. Reservations are for members only and limited to two tickets per member. Priority reservations are given to museum 1774 Society, President's Circle, Benefactor, Patron, and Patriot Members until August 29, 2008. Museum Individual, Household, and Keystone Members may register beginning September 1, 2008.

September 20, 2008: Revolutionary Charlotte
Time: 11:00am – 5:00pm
This event celebrates the history of the American Revolution in Charlotte. Visitors will learn about what happened in the Queen City during the war, visit encampments of both American and British troops, and learn about the Native American tribes that also called the Carolinas home.
$7 for Nonmembers; $5 for Members

October 24, 2008: Haunted Homesite
Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm

NOVEMBER 2008
November 15, 2008: Civil War Lantern Tour
Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Join the excitement as you take a walk back in time and relive the Civil War, as you take an in-depth look into the conditions, hopes, and fears that common foot soldiers of the Civil War lived with. As you progress through different camp settings on the grounds of the Homesite, you will see the campfires, smell the cooking, and listen to the stories from the period.
Reservations are required.
$8 for Adults; $6 for Children
