Annual Report

Fiscal Year 2014 Annual Report

The Charlotte Museum of History has wrapped up our first full fiscal year of operations under our new business model and we would like to share our progress with you.  During this past year we concentrated on building a strong foundation by focusing on four key areas:  Education, Preservation, Collaboration, and Fiscal Responsibility.

Thanks to the many individuals, foundations, and corporations that made a gift to us, we were able to accomplish the following:

Educational Programs
We reopened on a regular public schedule for visitation.
We have engaged students and adults in our local history.
Our neighborhood walking tours and educational teas have exceeded capacity.
We have opened one of the closed galleries as an art gallery featuring Charlotte artists.
We are working to reopen the Piedmont Backcountry gallery by the end of September.

Fiscal Responsibility
We achieved a balanced budget.
Our audit was issued with no management concerns.
We do not have any debt.
We adopted financial procedures based on best practices for nonprofits.

Historic Preservation
Conducted an environmental study of the Hezekiah Alexander Home Site.  We have compiled a list of repairs that need to be made also.

We worked in partnership with the May 20 Society, Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte Mecklenburg Libraries, Mecklenburg County Courthouse, Mecklenburg County, Mint Museum, Charlotte Folk Society, Levine Museum of New South, Historic Charlotte, and Johnson C. Smith University to produce educational programs.

Thank you for your continued interest and support.  It is very meaningful to us and the persons who come here seeking to learn about Charlotte and Mecklenburg County’s history.
