The Charlotte Museum of History exists to save and share the Charlotte region’s history, helping create a better understanding of the past and inspiring dialogue about the future. Your donation helps keep Charlotte’s history alive, including protecting the Queen City’s oldest home, the 1774 Alexander Rock House, and saving the historic Siloam School, a 20th century one-room school for Black students in Mallard Creek.

The Museum is a nonprofit organization that relies on the support of private citizens, businesses and foundations, and program revenue. You can help us preserve the tangible artifacts and stories of those who have lived in our community and bring Charlotte history and culture to K-12 students and life-long learners through engaging, innovative programs and events. The Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and your donation may be tax deductible. Find our most recent financial reports, organization history, and more on the About Us page.

In response to the pandemic, the Museum quickly updated all of our interpretation, produced more than 60 virtual programs, and created in-depth self-guided experiences that allow visitors to explore the grounds of the 1774 Homesite safely. This outdoor signage will be permanently installed thanks to the support of our donors – thank you!
