Celebrate the newest season of the Starz hit-show, Outlander, with this Scottish-themed Throwback Thursday! As Scots-Irish settlers in the 18th century Piedmont, Hezekiah & Mary Alexander experienced many parallels to that of Jamie and Claire Fraser in the show (sans the time travel): They established a large homestead in the 1770s while raising an ever-growing family, acted as local leaders in various political and civil matters, and found themselves at the forefront of the American Revolution in the Carolina backcountry. For pay-what-you-wish admission, visitors can explore the museum’s exhibits and historic Alexander homesite after hours, and enjoy a traditional Scottish bagpipe performance by Queen City Juvenile Pipe and Drum.

Want to go inside the 1774 Alexander Rock House? Sign up for a special Outlander-themed guided tour at 6:30pm ($5/person) and explore the many similarities and differences between the Frasers living on Fraser’s Ridge and that of the Alexander family. Is Outlander historically accurate? Does the main house on Fraser’s Ridge have the same features and design as the Alexander Rock House? Would Hezekiah Alexander consider Jamie Fraser a friend, ally, or foe?
