This virtual, interactive tour of the Alexander Rock House uses livestream technology to invite you to be a guest of the Alexanders in 1774. A costumed guide will lead you through Mecklenburg County’s oldest home to learn about all the people who called 600 acres in East Charlotte home over 245 years ago. Hear stories of the women, men, and children – Native Americans, Europeans, and enslaved Africans – who helped create the Queen City we see today while virtually visiting the Museum. Students will be able to interact with guides in real time following the prerecorded tour.

This interactive conversation uses livestream technology to bring the experts to you. Hear about the people and objects whose stories we tell while virtually visiting the Museum. Students will be able to interact with guides in real time.  Chats include an introduction to the topic of the exhibit, time for questions, and then move into a detailed walk through the exhibit highlighting unique and significant artifacts.

If you cannot come to us, we will come to you. Explore unique stories of the 1774 Rock House and our Queen City from the comfort of your computer or tablet. This online series called “Unexpected Homeschoolers” invites you to join The Charlotte Museum of History to learn about 18th century cooking, the American Revolution, first peoples, and more as a part of our new online learning center.

This resource has been made available specifically to help serve students who are unable to join us at the Museum as a result of COVID-19. The Museum is offering this program free of charge to our community, but please consider making a donation to CMH to help us continue offering programs like these to students whose learning has been impacted.
