The Charlotte Museum of History's unique signature programs includes an annual contemporary home tour, cultural festival and awards ceremony.
The Charlotte Gem Preservation Awards is the premier fundraising event for the Museum and is hosted across the entire campus of the Museum, including the eight-acre 1774 Alexander Homesite and inside our exhibit galleries. The event celebrates Charlotte’s unique history and culture through performances, immersive activities and tours, music, and food and drink. This event also includes the honoring of restoration and building projects in the greater Charlotte region that exemplify the best of historic preservation at the Charlotte Preservation Awards.

Celebrate Charlotte’s Black history and culture during the free annual African American Heritage Festival. The February 2023 festival focused on the importance of education and self care with interactive performances, workshops, an HBCU college fair and a keynote address by Jaki Shelton Green, North Carolina’s first African American Poet Laureate. The festival also included an art show, interactive art project, local vendors and special tours of the 1774 Rock House and historic homesite.
