Experience a night of classical music in an intimate setting at the Charlotte Museum of History’s “An Eighteenth Century Evening” on Thursday, Jan. 25, featuring the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra performing works by Chevalier, Mozart, Handel and more.
As part of the evening, special guest Patricia Ann Neely will discuss the often-overlooked works of people of color during the Baroque period, including violin virtuoso, conductor and composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint Georges. Neely is a music historian and the first person of color to become a professional on the viola de gamba. She performs internationally, and her story will be featured next year on History Makers, a digital archive of African American history from a first-person perspective.
In honor of the 1774 Rock House turning 250 next year, the Charlotte Museum of History is partnering with organizations throughout 2024 to celebrate the impact of 18th century culture and innovations on the Queen City we see today. "An Eighteenth-Century Evening" is the first of this series.
