This exhibit, based on Scott Huler's book, compares John Lawson’s 1700 voyage through the Carolinas to the modern-day experience. Huler's own walk through the Carolinas revealed many similarities – the importance of local guides, the power of the swamp, the presence of history – but also significant changes like suburban sprawl, climate change, and modern telecommunications.
The exhibit includes artifacts from Huler's journey and stations where visitors can visualize Lawson and Hulers' journeys. In addition, The Museum hosted a podcast with Scott that you can read and hear at Charlotte Readers Podcast.
